Ordnance Survey Digital Map Data

We can provide the full range of OS Mapping & Data Centre products. There is a very large range of products all the way from detailed large scale data extracts that you might need for a planning application, through to the small scale road atlas type of map image that you could use as e.g. the background map in a statistical study of the whole of Great Britain.

The OS product range includes:

  • OS Strategi

OS StrategiT - This raster map image comes from the OS Road Atlas Britain, and is created at a scale of 1:250 000. It includes major roads, towns, layer coloured background terrain, major rivers and lochs, places of interest, and a whole lot more. This would be a good background map set to use for a GB wide application, or in a GIS system as an initial view before zooming in or a particular area. As such it is comparable to the People's Map 1:200 000 data and the Bartholomew map image.

  • OS LandRanger

OS LandRangerT - This raster map image is what you probably know from the pink covered 1:50 000 OS walking maps sold in most map shops, which have probably been the most popular single OS product since first published in the 1960s. It forms a cost effective and quite detailed base map for a wide range of GIS or web applications, and could also be used as an intermediate scale map before you zoom in to street level data. Although most roads, even in towns, are shown, these maps do not include road names.

  • OS Explorer

OS ExplorerT - This raster map image comes from the paper 1:25 000 scale maps that have a yellow cover and are used for detailed coverage of relatively compact areas. They show considerably more detail than the LandRanger maps, and are in fact derived from a reduction of OS 1:10 000 scale mapping. They show individual buildings and streets, land uses such as marshes and woodland, contour lines, and places of interest, among many other things. For those requiring a cost effective method of providing detailed mapping of large areas that does not justify the cost of street level data, then this can be the ideal choice.

  • OS StreetView

OS StreetViewT - This raster image does not have a paper map equivalent. It has been specially created for GIS and web applications from the OS MasterMapT large scale data. It shows all building outlines, roads with names, and selected land uses. Although relatively expensive for large areas, this is the ideal data set for any application that needs street level mapping with road names clearly visible. For urban and agricultural areas there is more detail available in MasterMap, but for large areas of the country (much of Scotland and Wales and mountain areas of England), 1:10 000 scale is the largest available mapping. This mapping is equivalent to the People's Map Street data.

  • OS BoundaryLine

OS BoundaryLineT - BoundaryLine is a specialist OS vector (linework) data set that covers all the political boundaries in Great Britain. This includes borders for England, Scotland and Wales, the unitary authorites in Scotland and Wales, the counties, unitaries, districts and metropolitan boroughs in England, ward boundaries and parliamentary constituency boundaries. Different extacts are available.

OS LandRanger (1:50 000), Explorer (1:25 000), StreetView (1:10 000) and OS MasterMap for areas of up to 10 by 10 km can be previewed and ordered online here in the extensive preview and ordering system. If you need mapping for a larger area than this, for a product not available in the online system, or would simply like to discuss your options, then simply contact us with your requirements.

Paper maps and digital PDFs using OS (and other) mapping may be created using our Maps on DemandT service. The PDF version can be downloaded, while paper or encapsulated versions will be posted to you. Sizes between A4 and A0 in either Landscape or Portrait are possible.
